Community Law Centre to host Prof Henk Kummeling

The Community Law Centre is delighted to announce that it will be hosting Prof Henk Kummeling, the outgoing Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics & Governance at Utrecht University (Netherlands) and Extraordinary Professor at the Law Faculty. He will be joining the centre from 15 October 2014 to 11 December 2015.

He is taking a year’s sabbatical after leading one of Holland’s most prestigious law faculties for six years. He will work on a book on comparative constitutional law and participate in various Faculty and Centre activities.


Prof Kummeling has been the Dean of the Law Faculty of Utrecht since 2008. In 2005 he was appointed by Royal Decree to be the chairman of the Electoral Council and he has been in that position ever since. He is also a chairman AWB-appeals board of the Ministry of Health. He is on the editorial board of several legal journals and he has published over a number of other matters and constitutional aspects of the political process.

According to Wikipedia Prof Kummeling studied law at the Catholic University of Nijmegen , which university he in 1988 by Constantijn Kortmann dissertation on Consultancy in public law: a comparative study. He served as a research assistant at his alma mater, and associate professor at the University of Utrecht . Here he was appointed in 1995 as professor of constitutional law and comparative constitutional law.
