The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), held its 45th Ordinary Session in Banjul, Republic of The Gambia, from 13 to 27 May 2009. The Session was chaired by the Chairperson of the African Commission, Commissioner Sanji Monageng. As the Vice-Chairperson, Commissioner Angela Melo, was absent from the session, Mr. Tom Nyanduga was elected as Acting Vice-Chairperson for the 45th Session of the African Commission. In recent years, CLC has increasingly been working on the need for regional integration to encourage development in Africa, and has accordingly expanded its mission statement to seek the advancement of human rights and democracy also in this broader context. In this regard the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) is a key forum for interaction with stakeholders on promoting and protecting human rights on the continent, and the work of the ACHPR presents numerous opportunities for the Centre to advance its goals and objectives in the African context.
