Phindile holds LLB and LLM degrees from the University of the Western Cape and is currently pursuing LLD at the same University. He is a researcher and one of the managing editors of the Local Government Bulletin. Phindile's LLM thesis was on professionalisation of the administrative arm of local government with the aim to address the capacity deficit at local government.  He also coordinates the internship program, a component of the LLM programme in Local Government and Decentralisation. He is also the coordinator of the From the Courts Project, a project in partnership with DBSA and Strategies for Change, which entails making summaries of cases which have a local government focus and interest.   Phindile has worked in the South African Human Rights Commission for a short while where he published an article in the SAHRC publication, Kopanong.  He has also worked for the Western Cape Department of Local Government and Housing as an intern and wrote a legal opinion that was later confirmed by the High Court.
