Julia Sloth-Nielsen has been involved in criminal justice and penal reform for more than a decade. She assisted with the development of the Child Justice Bill, has published on prison overcrowding and minimum sentencing legislation, and published in a variety of topics related to criminal justice and prisons in South Africa. She was a member of the National Council on Correctional Services from 1997- 2004, and is interested in issues relating to parole, sentencing practice and policy, HIV/AIDS and vulnerable groups in prisons, as well as policy development surrounding corrections in South Africa.
